I turn the big 40 today...share my birthday with Al Pacino, Hank Azaria, Renee Zellweger, Tim Duncan and Oliver Cromwell...

great Ship O' Fools http://archive.org/details/gd1986-12-30.sbd.miller.77446.flac16 ...interesting late '86 show, the band had alot of energy, as did the crowd...nicely received first set, effects laden guitrars and compressed vocals abound...second set enjoyable

TDIH shows

Anyhew, as far as TDIH, 04-25 was represented in 1969, 1971, 1977, 1981 acoustic set and lastly 1983...

yellow dog...http://archive.org/details/gd1969-04-25.sbd.miller.97392.sbeok.flac16

http://archive.org/details/gd1971-04-25.sbd.matera.113038.sbeok.flac16

actually somewhat average compared to 4-27 and May shows, still nioe reading of Terrapin...http://archive.org/details/gd77-04-25.sbd.symons.15879.sbeok.shnf

sweet acoustic set...http://archive.org/details/gd1981-04-25.sbd.gems.103640.flac16

awesome GDTRFB... http://archive.org/details/gd1983-04-25.s1.senn421.miller.119643.flac24

happy birthday and thanks for the tbdih links. i went with the '86 and was not disappointed. have always been a big fan of post-coma jerry, but i usually stick to '87-'91. this makes me think i should check out some more '86.

i'm actually surprised to find out that you are only 40, by the way. lurking (and occasionally posting) here over the years i have come to recognize you as one of a fairly small group of posters who, like me, appreciates the early brent/tiger years of 80-83. for some reason i sort of assumed that most of those people liked those years because that was their era of seeing shows but, since we are the same age (i'm right behind you with my 40th coming this summer), that seems unlikely in your case. i guess that is the kind of wrong conclusion that can be reached when one's assumptions are based entirely on musical preferences...

anyway, happy birthday to you, al pacino, hank azaria, and the rest of the crew.

I saw the bulk of my shows in 1993, however after years of listening/studying/ experiencing their 30 year catalogue, certain years appeal to me, like a fine peaty scotch...love 79-83 period, honing in on 1981...of course. 69-72 or 76-78 might be next...

Oliver Cromwell, eh? Then of course you need to give a few minutes to this one :-)

(I'd give equal time to the other side, but I'm not sure it's inspired much music ...)

Happy birthday! Enjoy the day. And the decade.

edit: Well, there is this one. I think it's pro. Maybe. There will be a quiz at the end. Extra credit for defining "rump parliament."

Have you ever walked the lonesome hills
And heard the curlews cry
Or seen the raven black as night
Upon a windswept sky
To walk the purple heather
And hear the westwind cry
To know that's where the rapparee must die

Since Cromwell pushed us westward
To live our lowly lives
There's some of us have deemed to fight
From Tipperary mountains high
Noble men with wills of iron
Who are not afraid to die
Who'll fight with gaelic honour held on high

A curse upon you Oliver Cromwell
You who raped our Motherland
I hope you're rotting down in hell
For the horrors that you sent
To our misfortunate forefathers
Whom you robbed of their birthright
"To hell or Connaught" may you burn in hell tonight

Of one such man I'd like to speak
A rapparee by name and deed
His family dispossessed and slaughtered
They put a price upon his head
His name is known in song and story
His deeds are legends still
And murdered for blood money
Was young Ned of the hill

A curse upon you Oliver Cromwell
You who raped our Motherland
I hope you're rotting down in hell
For the horrors that you sent
To our misfortunate forefathers
Whom you robbed of their birthright
"To hell or Connaught" may you burn in hell tonight

You have robbed our homes and fortunes
Even drove us from our land
You tried to break our spirit
But you'll never understand
The love of dear old Ireland
That will forge an iron will
As long as there are gallant men
Like young Ned of the hill

But I kept waiting for the part where she'd start cursing Oliver Cromwell.

Happy birthday strat - I love it when there's lots of good things to celebrate.

Somehow it doesn't seem too weird to celebrate things like birthdays and weddings with a bunch of good people I will probably never meet.......

The December 1986 Kaiser run was solid featuring the return of the comeback kid, caught two shows and taped the NYE broadcast on KFOG.

http://archive.org/details/gd1986-12-30.sbd.miller.77446.flac16

2nd set: IKYR > Saint > Shipper > Aiko Aiko > Stella Blue

My oldest brother hooked up with Rock Scully on the rampway to the upper level just before this show started. They shared some business activities in the 70s. This was around the time when Rock was relegated to the audience.

There will be several Boston Bruin players hoisting them in honor of your personal milestone this evening and well into tomorrow. The 30's are wild, 40's are more settled with a focus on either your artistic acumen or your earning potential and the 50's are simply more settled.

All i know about you Strat is that you enjoy the music!

Keep keepin on ...

I just turned 55 . Yesterday I got my first "senior discount" at the local market ...
I wish I was just turning 40 ! But then there is alot of things I would have missed , like seeing the Keith and Donna era band etc.
